OCT & Wide Field Imaging
At Jarvis Optometrist, we were the first in Scotland to use the Optos Monaco imaging system. This allows both central OCT scans and Optomap wide field imaging. This allows us to see much more of your retina than before and in greater detail. This greatly improves our assessment of the health of your eyes.
The normal field of view with imaging systems is about 45 degrees, with the Optomap system this has increased to 200 degrees, allowing us to see almost the entire retina.
This is particularly useful for patients that we might suspect of having a retinal break or tear which can lead to retinal detachment.
For the central retina we use OCT scans, which allow us to see the central retina in cross section. This is particularly useful when checking for macular degeneration, where it is important to distinguish between the more chronic (Dry) macular degeneration and acute (Wet) macular degeneration, which requires prompt referral and treatment.
